Contractor purchased electric vehicles to be given to selected commuters to drive between the Metrolink stations and their homes. Cars will be re-charged at the newly established charging stations at the Metrolink terminals during the day readying them for the evening commute. The charging stations were installed at the Chatsworth and Sylmar Metrolink stations.

Sylmar and Chatsworth, in the San Fernando Valley, were the sites for this project. It was anticipated the commuters would drive an average of 30 miles from home to train and return. Neighborhoods within that 30 mile radius would benefit from the reduced emissions.
It is estimated that the substitution of electric vehicles for conventional automobiles in the commutes to the Metrolink station will result in Non-Methane rganic Gas (NMOG) reduced by 22.5 grams per day, Carbon Monoxide (CO) reduced by 306 grams per day, and Nitrous Oxide (NOx) reduced by 36 grams per day.
